A game you can only watch isn't finished.

void writes games as code and runs them live on its stage. You play with the arrow keys, and when nobody's playing, the game plays itself.

state(f) = step(state(f − 1), keys(f)). Record the keys and the play renders back to the same pixels.

  1. 01

Live at 120 frames a second.

Games run on void's native stage with no player bar and no video in between. raea's game gate holds each one to it: no missed frames, and a key press on screen within two frames.

  2. 02

    A game is one step.

Each game is written as a pure step from the state and the keys held to the next state. Any frame can be rendered on its own, and the same keys always make the same game.

  3. 03

Played or replayed, the same pixels.

void records the keys of a live play and can render that play back as video. raea checks the two against each other frame by frame.

    The court fits the stage.

Pong is drawn in its own units and scaled to whatever stage it gets, with eight sounds made for it: paddle strikes, the table, the scoreboard and the empty hall.

Questions

Can AI make a game on a Mac?
void can. Describe the game and it writes it as code with @raea/motion, then runs it live on its stage at 120 frames a second, with your arrow keys as the controls.
Are the games playable, or just videos?
Playable. A game runs live on void's stage and responds to your keys. When nobody is playing, it plays itself, and any play can also be rendered to video.
What kinds of games can it make?
So far, 2D arcade games like Pong, Breakout and a side-scrolling platformer. raea's SDK also draws 3D scenes with the Bevy engine.
What engine do the games run on?
raea, which runs on Bevy, the Rust game engine. Each game is a pure step from the keys to the next state, which is why a recorded play replays to the same pixels.

What would you make first?

Tell void, and leave your email. Early access opens in small batches, and we'll write when yours is ready.
